چکیده
PURPOSE To study whether the glistening on implanted acrylic intracular lenses increases or not. METHOD 1. Prospective study: We studied the glistening on 49 implanted acrylic intraocular lenses, particularly the time of appearance and increase after glistening appeared. 2. EXPERIMENT We kept an intraocular lens immersed in saline solution at 50 degrees centigrade for two hours and then moved this lens into saline solution at 35 degrees centigrade, and observed this lens during immersion. RESULTS 1. Prospective study: Glistening was present in 28 eyes (57%), and appeared from 2 to 16 months postoperatively. A few months after appearance it become stable and did not increase further. 2. EXPERIMENT On the 10th day after observation, we could see glistening on the lenses. The points of glistening were 10 microns or less in size, and did not change during 60 days of observation. CONCLUSION The glistening in acrylic intraocular lenses seemed to become stable a few months after appearance. This our experimental method is useful, because it gives us glistening similar to clinical cases in a short time.

Evaluation of in vitro glistening formation in hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses
PURPOSE To evaluate the impact of continuous manufacturing process improvements on glistening formation in AcrySof hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOLs) by comparing lenses manufactured in 2003 with lenses manufactured in 2012. METHODS Glistenings were experimentally created as aqueous-filled microvacuoles utilizing an accelerated laboratory method by immersing the lens in water at 45...

PURPOSE To determine the hydrophobic, antiglistening, and bioadhesiveness properties of a new polymer, GF raw material, and to determine the suitability of this material for use in intraocular lenses (IOLs). SETTING University of Liege, Liege, Belgium. DESIGN Experimental study. METHODS Intraocular lenses made of the new hydrophobic acrylic material were tested and compared with reference...
متن کاملAnalysis of glistenings in hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses on visual performance.
AIM To assess patients' visual performance with glistenings in one piece soft hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOLs) (Alcon) 2 years postoperatively. METHODS This cross section trial included 120 eyes with one piece IOL at 2 years postoperatively. Glistening was classified in 4 groups, ranging from 0 (none) to 3 (most evident) according to their severity in IOLs optics observed under a...
متن کاملClinical properties of a novel, glistening-free, single-piece, hydrophobic acrylic IOL
A new, single-piece, hydrophobic acrylic lens - the first constructed with a lens optic and haptics comprised of a hydroxyethyl methacrylate-polyethylene glycol phenyl ether acrylate-styrene copolymer, cross-linked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, and labeled as "glistening-free" - was recently introduced globally. Glistenings have been a significant source of clinical concern with previous...
متن کاملAdhesion of lens capsule to intraocular lenses of polymethylmethacrylate, silicone, and acrylic foldable materials: an experimental study.
AIMS To investigate the adhesion characteristics of several intraocular lenses (IOLs) to the simulated and rabbit lens capsule. METHODS Adhesive force to bovine collagen sheets was measured in water with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), three piece silicone, and acrylic foldable IOLs. In rabbit eyes, phacoemulsification and IOL implantation were performed. Three weeks later, adhesion between th...
